Very little in it to the first buoy, then the four crews stretched out into their positions and stayed there to the finish. Great runner-up performance from the untrained veterans crew. One dog overboard from the Clare-Cork boat, picked up by the ref’s boat! 😆
Full 2-lap race won convincingly by a crew with regatta novice Kate! Charlotte’s experience and strength made sure she fought back from 3rd to 2nd place with two local novices, while the all-novice Cork crew put in a great performance for 3rd!
Tough race out against the breeze for the youngsters (with a few young at heart filling in places!) but all did very well, especially Cork regatta novice Caitlin!
Fear & Bean
Very tight race down to first buoy, myself & Charlotte had the edge out in front, but on second turn a bad tangle got us stuck like glue to Stephen & Triona, the other boats left us behind, and we ended up 4th, gutted!
Mixed ‘as an hata’ 3hand
Thanks to Colm’s daughter Aoife & young Lawrence Hannon for picking me a great crew! Two heats of 3, with 4 strong crews in the final, no thanks to me steering wrong way round a buoy in my heat! I didn’t make that mistake again in the final, though we did have to navigate around a stray sliding seat boat who wandered onto the course, and we were pushed hard all the way to the finish by the 2nd place Kerry crew (trying to make up for last Sunday?!)
Final race of the day, only two crews - Cork/Clare vs Maharees finest, and we set off at a fast pace off the start line, very little in it to the first buoy, we lost a little ground across to the 2nd buoy but it was enough to fall behind on the final stretch, to the naomhog all-Ireland champions. A fine end to the day!
Huge thanks to everyone who travelled and brought the Clare boats - especially Ray & Ruth (despite a family commitment back home that evening) and Stephen, plus Connie, Pearce, Lawrence and Charlotte, and the Maharees crew. Even baby Faye put in an appearance with Sharon!
