It was extremely dark and quiet around the city as we headed up to the club at 3:30am, passing only a few cars full of people taking part in the various Darkness Into Light walks around Cork and surrounding suburbs. We lifted 2 boats out and dressed them in twinkling fairy lights, hoping to bring a smile to the faces of those taking part in the UCC walk as they made their way along the Banks of the Lee Walkway as this year we wouldn't have the depth in the river to make it all the way up to the pedestrian bridge.

Our 2 boats and a couple of local kayakers set out from the club around 4:15am and watched the sun start to peak over the horizon as we made our way up through the Port of Cork before arriving at the Mercy Hospital, the fl
ow was quite strong so we took turns paddling a little to keep the boats from floating back downriver.

It was lovely to see hundreds of people walking past and taking part to support Pieta House and the fantastic work they do to support those affected by suicide and self-harm.
